My work deals with memory, family and more recently the anticipation of absence. It explores the push and pull of closeness and distance both physical and metaphorical.
I use layers of acrylic paint, tonal washes and some subtle drawing to evoke lingering memory; echoes. The memories are imperfect, clear in some parts, hazy in others. The chair motif is an anchor throughout. They are my parents' chairs. They are an anchor to home, and the memories inside it.
These paintings are a place and a point in time that I want to remember and keep a connection with. In them I’m thinking about the quiet and ordinary things, objects and places and the subtle ways we witness and remember each other.
